A bit of history.

The water mill is of a very rare and unusual design.  The water was channeled under the mill where it turned a horizontal turbine which in turn gave the power for the milling process.  The mill was in use until 1982 when the last miller died at the age of 99. This last use was established from a newspaper that was used to stop up the flour exit hole.  The mill was, even in its heyday, a very small scale operation with only a couple of hundred bags of flour produced annually.

It is thought that the mill was constructed in around 1275 by the English to provide flour and bread ( in the large oven that has now collapsed) for the soldiers garrisoned here. The English controlled the region from here to Bordeaux looking after the wine interests.

There is an extensive  English history in the region with, for example, Richard the Lionheart meeting his end locally.

The accommodation consists of two double bedded rooms upstairs. Both bedrooms are 'en suite' one having both bath and shower and the other a bath.

Downstairs there are the old mill workings which now provides a sitting room and a fitted kitchen..... dining area. There is a veranda which provides another eating or sitting area.

Immediatly outside the mill by the waterfall is a patio with garden furniture.

The mill lies in 20 acres of garden,  pasture for our cows and sheep and woodland all of which are available to our guests. There are dozens of secluded spots suitable for sunbathing or just relaxing.

The river Beraude flows through the property and forms a little island with pine trees that is superb for sheltering from the sun and having a barbecue.  Just put your wine into the  river to keep cool.

The river is a class one trout stream and fishing is available here and in many other rivers and lakes with the necessary permits.

Dogs.... it is now easy to take your pet on holiday and we don't mind having them here providing they are well behaved and won't disappear into the forest.

The mill is equipped for self- catering but it is nice to eat out sometimes and there are a selection of restaurants within a half an hours drive.

The area is a relatively new one for the English holiday maker.  Until recently almost all the summer visitors were French from Paris and the north.

There are all the usual amenities available within a reasonable distance (Golf, Swimming,  Horse Riding etc).

Ladies - grab your credit card and have an afternoon looking around the porcelain factories and see how it is made in the museum.

The  expansion of the airport at Limoges has been responsible for a great increase of both short stay breaks and longer holidays. If you are interested  in arriving this way give us a ring. The airport is one hour away, car hire is very simple and reasonable or we can  collect you. There is also a fast and frequent rail service to/from Paris.

St Leonard de Noblat and Bourganeuf our two local towns are of great interest and there is not much you cannot obtain locally.  Limoges and Gueret, a further 20 minutes away are the regional capitals and again full of interest and the larger shops.

Please ring or email for any further information.  We have been here for 16 years and are starting to get a feel for the area. The countryside is stunning and the locals delightful
